MMD Brokers (Pty) Ltd. was formed in 2015 between Marlin Pillay and the late Dirshen Pillay. Between the two of them they had 30 years of experience across multiple disciplines. In 2025 Ms Theshni Pillay took over as director of the company.
MMD has a vast growing client base, with servicing to both
public and private sector across many different categories in
the fields of consulting, professional services and logistics. We strive to offer the best service and most competitive rates.

MEET THE TEAM

  • After matriculating, Dirshen went on to the University of Cape Town to study a Bachelors of Business Science in Actuarial Science and Finance. After graduating he joined Nedbank Corporate and Investment bank where he worked in the Global Markets Division.
  • After a few years he was in-charge of the commodities desk which he successfully ran for many years, generating an income in excess of R125 million, management of a R2.8 billion grain book and increasing market share and initiation of new products. 
  • He brings experience in trading, structuring, business strategy, people management and business running experience. 
  • He had started up other successful companies in the past, in the process of establishing a trading fund, and is now also pursuing his CFA qualification, followed by an MBA. 


Founder - Late Mr. Dirshen Pillay

  • Marlin’s career started out in banking, followed by an early move into the import/export, recycling and logistics industry. 
  • In that industry he excelled quite rapidly to become a director and manager of a global logistics and operations company
  • It is in this role for over the past ten years that he has been responsible for the project management of all projects within the company. 
  • He was responsible for contract negotiation, procurement, maintaining relationships with suppliers, clients and vendors.  Management of all operations and timely delivery as well as the financials.
  • He was also responsible for the pricing of the deals/services that were being offered.  This required him to be aware of the environment, competition and pricing correctly to ensure adequate market share was captured. 
  • Marlin is set to pursue an MBA qualification

Ms Pillay started immediately into the marketing sector after graduating with vast experience in high profile clients dealing with private vaults

She has quickly learned the ropes of the business and has taken over directorship since 2025
